Cancer is a broad disease that affects many parts of the body and is hard to cure as a result, but broccoli has shown to be effective in treating and preventing most forms.
This meta analysis (1) found that a high intake of cruciferous vegetables (of which broccoli is the most potent) was associated with a decreased occurrence of breast cancer, another found the same for prostate cancer (2), another showed the same for kidney cancer (3) and there are also studies on colon cancer, stomach cancer and bladder cancer that mimic these results.
If the above research is correct and broccoli really is a potent weapon in the fight against cancer, then there is a good chance that it’s all the result of its antioxidant levels.
Scientists have known for a while now that a diet high in natural antioxidants can lead to reduce risks of cancer and other diseases. It can also help reduce blood sugar level, to maintain optimum gut health, and more.
There is some recent research suggesting that antioxidants are not all they are cracked up to be and the tabloids are jumping on this because they know it gets clicks and sells papers.

Regular consumption of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli can help to slow cognitive decline.
They looked at over 900 people and discovered that there was a slower rate of cognitive decline in those who consumed at least one portion a day.
The study found that the biggest improvement was in those who consumed 1.3 servings a day—the highest amount in the study—with the rate of decline measured at 11 years younger than those who did not consume any.
This is a huge improvement for what amounts to a very small amount of dark green vegetables every day, and it proves the point that we’re always making: big improvements come following the smallest of commitments.
