List of the Best Superfoods for Men and for Women

Superfoods are not sexist. We’re all human, so what’s good for a man will be good for a woman.

We just wanted to make that clear from the off.

However, male and female physiology is different and there are ailments and natural cycles that affect one more than the other.

For instance, women menstruate, they go through the menopause, they get pregnant and they have a higher rate of breast cancer; men produce more testosterone, have a greater chance of going bald and suffer with prostrate problems as they age.

There are clear reproductive differences as well, but in this guide to superfoods for men and superfoods for women, it’s predispositions, ailments and cycles that we will focus on as we highlight the foods and supplements that can help.

It’s worth noting, however, that just because a superfood may be able to help women more in one area, doesn’t mean it should be ignored by men, and vice versa.

Some supplements, such as DetoxOrganics, which was formulated for overall health and wellbeing, can help both sexes just as well.

    Pomegranate Juice

In 2007 a number of studies regarding pomegranate juice’s apparent ability to stop erectile dysfunction began circulating online.

It was promising research, but it was also conducted by the biggest pomegranate juice brand in Europe, so we can probably discount that.

However, there is a lot of unbiased research out there concerning pomegranate’s ability to reduce prostate inflammation and to potentially help reduce the risk of certain forms of prostate cancer.

This, combined with the potential ability to reduce ED and the high concentration of nutrients found in pomegranate juice, makes this a must for men.

    Garlic

Not only will garlic keep the vampires at bay, but it works wonders on the blood and studies suggest that it could help to reduce blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease as a result.

Another study found that garlic could be effective both at reducing the risk of heart-disease and Alzheimer’s, two issues that are very common in men.

    Green Tea

We’ve heard about the benefits of green tea and these are pretty well rounded in terms of how they can help men and women.

The reason it has made it onto our list of the best superfoods for men is because some of the most promising health benefits concern heart health and brain function, which means it could protect against heart disease and Alzheimer’s, conditions more prevalent in men.

It may also play a role in preventing prostate cancer, as a study on Japanese men found that subjects who consumed it regularly were significantly less likely to develop the disease.

    Honey

Honey has been used as a traditional medicine for many thousands of years. It is a great natural healer when used on wounds and burns, but there is more to it than that.

It has a high concentration of polyphenols, which are known to reduce the risk of heart disease, and strokes, and it may also help to treat diabetes when used in place of sugar.

Caution is advised, however, as it’s still high in sugars and calories.

    Spinach

We’re not going to tell you that cans of spinach will give you big muscles. Unfortunately, that’s just not true (cartoons lied to you!). But it is relatively high in protein, with around 3 grams for every 25 calories and it also contains many other nutrients that are essential for overall health.

It is loaded with dietary fiber, contains very little sugar, and has health-boosting vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B9, calcium and iron.

It also contains antioxidants and phytonutrients like lutein, quercetin and zeaxanthin, helping with everything from eye health, to cancer prevention.

    Green Tea

Green tea made it onto our superfoods for men list and it has made it onto our superfoods for women list too. That’s because not only can it help reduce the risk of heart disease and Alzheimer’s, but it may also play a role in preventing breast cancer.

One meta-analysis study found that regular green tea consumption correlated with reduced rates of breast cancer, suggesting that drinking this tea on a regular basis could reduce the threat by as much as 30%.

    Raspberry Leaf

Raspberry leaf tea is popular with pregnant women as it is said to help induce labor when taken during the final couple weeks of pregnancy.

It is also consumed for its apparent benefits on the digestive and cardiovascular system, with some studies suggesting it could be used as a natural aid to fertility.

More research needs to be done, but there is a lot of promise here. Just make sure you check with your doctor/midwife if you’re planning on consuming while pregnant as it’s always best to be safe than sorry during times like that.

    Avocados

Avocados are high in oleic acid, which may help to prevent inflammation and many forms of cancer.

They also contain natural, healthy oils and fiber, both of which can improve heart health and digestive health.

We also know that people who eat avocados regularly tend to be healthier than those that do not.

This is correlation, not causation, which is to say that just because these people eat avocados doesn’t mean it is the avocados causing the improved health conditions. But it’s interesting nonetheless and ties into the many positive studies that have been done on the health benefits of avocado.

    Olive Oil

Olive oil is full of antioxidants and is also anti-inflammatory, with studies suggesting it could be effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.

It can also be used to keep the skin and hair in good condition, especially when applied topically, which is why it is becoming commonplace in shampoos, hair growth formulas and skin creams.

    Dandelion Root

Dandelion root is a natural diuretic, helping to rid the body of excess water by increasing urination. It may be able to help treat urinary infections and digestive disorders, and research published in 2008 suggests that it could help with weight loss in the same way that the weight loss drug Orlistat can.

This is a wonderful substance in many ways, with many more promising benefits that are only just being researched.

    The Best of Both

Whether you’re male or female, old or young, it’s important to maintain a heathy lifestyle that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables and beneficial plants.

Research on some of the aforementioned supplements may be relatively new and unknown, but the beneficial effects of a plant-based diet have been known for decades.

And if you can’t bring yourself to consume all those fruits and vegetables everyday, then pickup a tub of DetoxOrganics instead. It contains all the superfoods you could ever need, including many of the ones listed above.
